Hello all! I thought I would update the blog a little. My hope is that we can have excellent discussions from which we can all learn from. The topic of this blog is "Why the Golf Industry?" I would like to know what your personal reasons are for choosing to pursue a career in the golf industry.
Many of us have had mentors and people that we respect start us in the game of golf. We often look up to those people and thank them everyday for the encouragement that they offer us. As we play round after round with these people they start to become more than a golf coach. They start to become a life coach! There isn't another sport on the planet where the participants can have large amounts of human interaction. Friendships are formed on the course, business is done on the course, and lessons are learned on the course.
Give me an example of someone that has taught you a great deal about life on the golf course. I look forward to reading your responses and I am sure that your fellow Future Methodist University PGA Golf Management Students do as well!

I have chosen the golf industry because I want to give back as much or more to the game than it has given me. It is because of the First Tee that I am even in golf today.
ReplyDeleteI ended up in the golf industry as a result of growing up on the golf course. Early on in my golfing carrer I started noticing the benefits of not only golfing, but golfing well.
ReplyDeleteAt a young age I began golfing with my father and his friends at the club. As my game progressed I was able to play earlier in the morning and participate in events with a wider range of members. Before I reached high school I was playing golf with the owners of successful Law Firms, school superintendents, Doctors, and all sorts of other successful business people.
By the time I started high school I knew I wanted to enter the golf industry. It was at this time I began working with PGA Professional Gary Hardin. Working with Gary preppared me for my upcoming journey to become a PGA member. I was taught about the golf swing and the importance of excellence in playing ability needed to become a succesful PGA Professional.
Come my freshmen year of college at Methodist Gary had my game in shape to steamroll my PAT which I passed on my first attempt. If it had not been for Gary or the club I grew up playing at, my journey to becoming a PGA Professional would be far more challenging. My thanks go out to Gary Hardin and Oak Hill GOlf Club for the role they played in helping me develop both as a golfer and as a person.
I am choosing the golf industry because I have spent much of my last 5 years on a golf course.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first starting playing golf in about 6th grade, it was time for my dad and I to spend together outside of baseball. I was deeply involved in baseball and when moving up to the next level in baseball the tensions and necessity to improve became very stressful and overwhelming on my dad and I. So he began bringing me golfing and it is always enjoyable because it was time for my dad and I to relax and just have fun.
I am going into the golf industry because i want to help kids the way my dad helped me. I want to share my love of the game with them and hopefully grow their love for the game.
Golf is invaluable in my life because it has helped me mature, it taught me how to interact with other people particularly adults, it has taught me how to respect others and even how to respect myself. Golf teaches kids some of the most important life lessons and my goal in the golf industry will be to help more kids experience what I got to experience.
I want to thank my golf coaches, my PGA Professional Alex Smith, and especially my family for getting me involved in such great sport.
